Upcoming 2010:

Golpe: a Co-Production with
L'Agora de la Danse and Festival transamerique

Golpé explores control, violence, mercenary warfare, the disregard for law that has led to a series of prolonged and profoundly inhumane conflicts across the globe. It also reflects the corporate theft that has plunged the world into poverty and created a system of national slavery that indebts whole populations to international lenders. Where does choreography fit into such a profoundly unsettling landscape? Tusketdance's Artistic director Tammy Forsythe, continues her pilgrimage begun during 2003's The Backtrack. The robber barons are alive and well and wiping away the progressive social change of the past one hundred years. The reaction is a single woman dancing against the world, on a hilltop; the language of the body is martial but joyous, sacrificial yet defiant. The crucifix kung fu phrase was performed everywhere the artist travelled or stayed. It was a signature a tag marking time and decay, lost places and people. This signature was expanded infused with the fear and terror of torture, interrogation and mercenary warfare. Revelations about the US Government employee Blackwater Inc/ Xes corp. and its use of murder and violence for profit lead to a dark and strained piece, twisting, black, red, deliberate. Dancers sing out Danger! in chorus while moving awkward wood totems through the space. Travelling to Venezuela in January 09, Forsythe took a fresh look at movement and recorded several video dances around the country. A collection of vibrant music and video footage of the many faces of Venezuela led to an improvisation of refusal; there was no more to be said on a personal level, the choreography needed expansion and a group to perform it.
